In Europe, the real globe amaranth (Gomphrena globosa) is still more of an insider tip. Traditionally, the flowers of the plant are dried and infused to make a tea. Its bright color can also be used wonderfully in the kitchen as a decorative accent.
Application:
Tea preparation: Pour 150 ml of boiling hot water over 3 - 4 dried globe amaranth flowers. Cover and leave to infuse for 5 to 7 minutes, then strain. The flower heads produce a tea with a unique taste.
Effect: Spherical amaranth is also known as a medicinal plant. The dried flowers can be made into a tea, which is said to be very good for coughs and hoarseness.
Although real globe amaranth flowers are not fragrant, they retain their intense color for quite a long time. When soaked in liquids, they have little to no color or only leak slowly. The fluffy petals can be excellently combined with other products that can be used for tea-like infusions. In combination with rooibos tea, but also with fruit or herbal tea. But also great in classic infusions with black or green tea.
Recommended daily dose: 1 cup in the morning and another in the evening. The tea can be drunk both hot and cold.
